Removal Procedure
  1. Disable SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  3. Remove the IP center trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  4. Remove the radio and heater control. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  5. Remove left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove the IP endcaps. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  7. Remove the side window air outlets. Refer to Side Window Air Outlet Replacement .
  8. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  9. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  10. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  11. Disconnect the body to IP electrical connectors (1) at top outside corners of IP.
  12. Disconnect the HVAC harness electrical connector near the blower motor.
  13. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in connector.
  14. Disconnect the cigar lighter/ashtray lamp harness retainer push pin from bracket.
  15. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column Tilt.
  16. Disconnect the front parking brake cable housing from the parking brake pedal assembly. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement in Park Brake.

  17. Remove fasteners (1) from the steering column support (2) to IP carrier.

    18. Object Number: 105531 Size: SH
  18. Remove the IP center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.

    19. Object Number: 298080 Size: SH
  19. Remove the fasteners (2) from the IP carrier to hinge pillar.

    20. Object Number: 298068 Size: SH
  20. Remove IP carrier (1) to cowl fasteners.
  21. Remove IP carrier from the vehicle.
  22. Remove the IP cluster trim panel from the IP carrier. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  23. Remove the passenger side inflator module from the IP retainer. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  24. Remove the left trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  25. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  26. Remove the right IP trim plate from the IP carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  27. Remove the ignition switch from the IP. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  28. Remove the fog lamp switch. Refer to Fog Lamp Switch Replacement in Lighting System.
  29. Remove the fuel door/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement .
  30. Remove the IP storage compartment from the IP. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  31. Remove the fasteners retaining the IP retainer to the carrier.
  32. Partially remove the IP retainer from the carrier.

    33. Guide the wiring through the openings.

  33. Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.

    34. Complete removal.

  34. Remove the inside temperature sensor from the IP retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC System with A/C.
  35. Disconnect the park lock cable from the shifter. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement in Automatic Transaxle.
  36. Remove the A/C temperature sensors from the left and right air distribution duct. Refer to Air Conditioning (A/C) Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC System with A/C.
  37. Remove the fasteners retaining the left and right air distribution duct.

    38. Remove the ducts.

  38. Remove the fasteners from the left and right side window defroster ducts.

    39. Remove the ducts.

  39. Remove the theft deterrent module and mounting bracket from the IP carrier. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement in Theft Deterrent.
  40. Remove the park brake assembly from the carrier. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement in Park Brake.
  41. Remove the IP wiring harness from the IP carrier.
  42. Remove the upper mounting brackets and studs from the IP carrier.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the upper mounting brackets and stud to the IP carrier.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket fasteners to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  2. Install the IP wiring harness to the IP carrier.
  3. Install the park brake assembly to the carrier. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement in Park Brake.
  4. Install the theft deterrent module and mounting bracket to the IP carrier. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement in Theft Deterrent.
  5. Install the left and right side window defroster ducts.
  6. Install the fasteners.
  7. Install the left and right air distribution ducts.
  8. Install the fasteners.
  9. Install the A/C temperature sensors to the left and right air distribution duct. Refer to Air Conditioning (A/C) Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC System with A/C.
  10. Connect the park lock cable to the shifter. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement in Automatic Transaxle.
  11. Install the inside temperature sensor to the IP retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC System with A/C.
  12. Partially install the IP retainer.

    13. Connect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.

  13. Guide the wiring through the openings.
  14. Complete IP retainer Installation.
  15. Install the IP retainer to the IP carrier fasteners.
  16. Install the IP storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  17. Install the fuel door/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement .
  18. Install the fog lamp switch. Refer to Fog Lamp Switch Replacement in Lighting System.
  19. Install the ignition switch to the IP. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  20. Install the right IP trim plate to the IP carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  21. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  22. Install the left trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  23. Install the passenger side inflator module to the IP retainer. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  24. Install the IP cluster trim panel from IP carrier. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  25. Install the IP carrier to the vehicle.

    26. Object Number: 298068 Size: SH
  26. Install the IP carrier to cowl fasteners (1).

    27. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  27. Install the fasteners (2) from the IP carrier to hinge pillar.

    28. Tighten
    Tighten the to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  28. Install the IP center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.

    29. Tighten
    Tighten the support bracket fasteners to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  29. Install fasteners (1) from the steering column support (2) to the IP carrier.

    30. Tighten
    Tighten the Support fasteners to 9 N·m (7 lb in).

  30. Connect the front parking brake cable housing to the parking brake pedal assembly. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement in Park Brake.
  31. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column Tilt.
  32. Connect the cigar lighter/ashtray lamp harness retainer push pin to the retaining bracket.
  33. Connect the radio antenna lead-in connector.
  34. Connect the HVAC harness electrical connector.

  35. Connect the body to IP electrical connectors (1) at top outside corners of IP.
  36. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  37. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  38. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  39. Install the side window air outlets. Refer to Side Window Air Outlet Replacement .
  40. Install the IP endcaps. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  41. Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement .
  42. Install the radio and heater control. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  43. Install the IP center trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  44. Install the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  45. Enable SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
