Indicator System Check

Using a scan tool, establish communications with the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

    • The scan tool is able to communicate with the IPC.
    • No IPC DTC are stored.

Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

The IPC performs an indicator bulb check by turning ON the following indicators for 3 to 5 seconds:

    • BRAKE
    • CHECK GAGES
    • ABS
    • SECURITY
    • MPH
    • km/h
    • Traction
    • Air Bag (flashes 7 times and turns off)
    • Fasten Seat Belt (stays on with seat belt unbuckled)

Using a scan tool, select IPC special functions and perform an indicator test by turning ON and OFF each of the following indicators:

    • ABS
    • AIR BAG
    • BRAKE
    • SECURITY
    • TRACTION CONTROL
    • CHECK GAGES
    • MPH
    • km/h

The scan tool is able to perform an indicator test on the following indicators:

    • ABS
    • AIR BAG
    • BRAKE
    • SECURITY
    • TRACTION CONTROL
    • CHECK GAGES
    • MPH
    • km/h

  1. Operate the LH turn signal.
  2. Operate the RH turn signal.

Both turn signal indicators operate correctly when the turn signals are activated.

    • Turn ON the head lamps.
    • Activate the high beams ON and OFF.

The high beams indicator illuminates when the high beams are ON, and is OFF when the high beams are OFF.

High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. Close all of the vehicle's doors.
  2. Fasten the driver seat belt.

The Fasten Seat Belt indicator is OFF.

Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Inoperative

Apply the parking brake.

The BRAKE indicator illuminates.

Brake Warning Indicator Always On

Press the traction control button to turn ON the traction control system.

The traction control indicator illuminates only when the traction control system is activated.

Diagnostic System Check - ABS

  1. Traction control system OFF.
  2. High beams OFF.
  3. RH and LH turn signal OFF.
  4. Fasten the driver seat belt.
  5. Shift the transmission in the PARK position (Auto Trans) Neutral (Manual Trans).

Start the engine.

The following indicators are not illuminated:

    • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Service Engine Soon)
    • 1-4 SHIFT
    • CHECK GAGES
    • AIR BAG
    • ABS
    • BRAKE
    • SECURITY
    • High Beam
    • RH and LH turn signal
