Diagnostic System Check - Theft Deterrent Immobilizer System Check

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the Check Engine light.

Is the Check Engine light ON steady?

Go to Engine Controls for diagnosis.

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Establish communication with the ECM.

Does the scan tool communicate with the ECM?

Go to Step 4

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with EngineControl Module for diagnosis.

Is the repair procedure complete?

Attempt to start the engine.

Does the engine start?

Go to Step 5

  1. Select IMMOBILIZER on the scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition switch.
  3. Establish communication with the Theft Deterrent Module.

Does the scan tool communicate with the theft deterrent module?

--

Go to Step 7

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Theft Deterrent Module for diagnosis.

Is the repair procedure complete?

Select DTC Information.

Are any current DTCs displayed?

Go to Step 8

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List/Type for diagnosis of the DTC that is present.

Is the repair procedure complete?

Are any history or intermittent DTCs displayed?

--

Go to Step 10

  1. An intermittent problem is present.
  2. Go to the diagnositc aids for the appropriate DTC for diagnosis of the intermittent problem.

Is the repair procedure complete?

Attempt to start the engine again.

Does the engine start properly?

--

System OK

Go to Step 12

Check the following engine systems for basic malfunction. Refer to Engine Controls for specific test procedures.

    • Fuel system
    • Ignition system
    • General engine condition

Was a problem found and repaired with any of the engine systems?

  1. Open LH front side door and lower the window.
  2. Remove Key from the ignition switch and close door.
  3. Using the RKE transmitter (Key FOB) lock all doors.
  4. Observe the Security Indicator Lamp. The following should happen:
  5. • After locking all doors the lamp should light for approximately 30 seconds.
    • After 30 seconds the light should go out.

Does the Security Indicator Lamp Light?

  1. If the security indicator lamp is inoperative, go to SECURITY Indicator Inoperative for diagnosis.
  2. If the security indicator lamp is ON at all times, go to SECURITY Indicator Always On or Flashing for diagnosis.

  1. Unlock the LH front side door using the LH Front Side Door Lock Switch.
  2. Open LH front side door.

Do the low beams, exterior lamps and horn activate once per second?

Go to Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Alarm Mode Inoperative for diagnosis.

Is the repair procedure complete?

Using the Key FOB, unlock the doors.

Did the system disarm?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Remote Keyless Entry for diagnosis.

  1. Open LH front side door.
  2. Lock the doors using the side door lock switch and close door.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Unlock the door using the side door lock switch and open door.

NOTE: Repeat this step using the RH front side door. Do the low beams, exterior lamps and horn activate once per second?

Go to Theft Deterrent Not Armed When Locked From Switch for diagnosis.

Is the repair procedure complete?

  1. Open LH front side door.
  2. Insert the key in the ignition switch and place in the lock position. Close door.
  3. Using the Key FOB, lock all doors.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Reach through the open window and move the ignition switch out of the lock position.

Do the low beams, exterior lamps and horn activate once per second?

  1. Remove fey from ignition switch and insert it into the outside LH Door Lock Switch.
  2. Turn the key to the unlock position.

Did the system disarm?

Go to Step 11

Go to Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Armed When Unlocked From Switch for diagnosis.

Is the repair procedure complete?

--

System OK

  1. Open LH front side door.
  2. Insert the key in the ignition switch and place it in the LOCK position.
  3. Close the door.
  4. Using the key FOB, lock all doors.
  5. Wait 30 seconds.
  6. Remove Fuse V4 from the Power Distribution Fuse Box. Wait 5 seconds then reconnect.

Do the low beams, exterior lamps and horn activate once per second?

  1. Open Rear Compartment Lid.
  2. Depress Rear Compartment Courtesy Lamp Switch.
  3. Using the key FOB lock all doors.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Release switch.

Do the low beams, exterior lamps and horn activate once per second?
