Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 182588  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the instrument panel (IP) upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  5. Remove the LH and RH front carpet retainers. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  6. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  7. Grasp the IP accessory trim plate and carefully and evenly pull to release the retainers from the IP trim pad.
  8. Disconnect the heated seat switch electrical connector, if equipped.
  9. Remove the IP accessory trim plate.
  10. Remove the radio control. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  11. Remove the HVAC control. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC - Manual, or Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC - Automatic.
  12. Remove the cigarette lighter socket. Refer to Cigar Lighter Housing Replacement - Instrument Panel .

  14. Remove the LH IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  15. Remove the screws retaining the data link connector (DLC).
  16. Reposition the DLC out of the way.
  17. Grasp the IP steering column opening filler panel and carefully pull rearward to release the retainers and remove the panel.

  19. Remove the bolts retaining the base of the hood release handle and reposition the handle out of the way.

  20. Object Number: 182722  Size: SH
  21. Remove the screws retaining the IP switch bank to the IP trim pad.
  22. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch bank.
  23. Remove the IP switch bank.

  24. Object Number: 182576  Size: SH
  25. Remove the IP cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  26. Remove the screws retaining the IP cluster.

  27. Object Number: 182581  Size: SH
  28. Disconnect the electrical connector from the IP cluster.
  29. Remove the cluster.
  30. Remove the hazard warning and cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control and Hazard Warning Switch Replacement .
  31. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  32. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC - Automatic.

  34. Remove the bolts retaining the knee bolster bracket to the IP trim pad.

  35. Object Number: 182689  Size: SH
  36. Remove the bolts retaining the knee bolster bracket to the steering column bracket.
  37. Remove the knee bolster bracket.
  38. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

  39. Object Number: 182793  Size: SH
  40. Using a small flat-bladed tool, carefully release the front floor console power accessory port from the front floor console.
  41. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front floor console power accessory port.
  42. Remove the RH IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  43. Remove the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  44. Remove the IP compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  45. Object Number: 182804  Size: SH
  46. Remove the RH IP access opening cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  47. Depress the fuse block upper locking tab, in order to release.
  48. Carefully rotate the fuse block inward to release the fuse block from the IP trim pad, then reposition the block out of the way.

  50. Remove the bolts retaining the IP trim pad to the RH hinge pillar.
  51. Remove bolts retaining the center of the IP trim pad.

  52. Object Number: 311642  Size: SH
  53. Remove the LH IP access opening cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  54. Remove the bolts retaining the IP trim pad to the LH hinge pillar.

  55. Object Number: 326084  Size: SH
  56. Remove the bolts retaining the upper edge of the IP trim pad.
  57. Reposition the IP wiring harness away from the IP trim pad.
  58. Carefully remove the IP trim pad from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 326084  Size: SH
  1. Carefully install the IP trim pad into position in the vehicle.
  2. Install the IP wiring harness into position on the IP trim pad.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the IP trim pad upper retaining bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the IP trim pad upper retaining bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  6. Install the IP trim pad to LH hinge pillar retaining bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the IP trim pad to hinge pillar retaining bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  8. Install the LH IP access opening cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 311638  Size: SH
  10. Install the IP trim pad center retaining bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the IP trim pad center retaining bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  12. Install the IP trim pad to RH hinge pillar retaining bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the IP trim pad to hinge pillar retaining bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  14. Align the fuse block lower retaining tabs into position in the fuse block cutout on the IP trim pad.
  15. Carefully rotate the upper edge of the fuse block outward to secure the fuse block upper locking tab into position.
  16. Install the RH IP access opening cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .

  17. Object Number: 182793  Size: SH
  18. Install the IP compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  19. Install the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  20. Install the RH IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  21. Connect the electrical connector to the front floor console power accessory port.
  22. Align the power accessory port to the front floor console, then press into place to secure.

  24. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  25. Install the knee bolster bracket into position.
  26. Install the knee bolster bracket to steering column bracket retaining bolts.

  27. Object Number: 182702  Size: SH
  28. Install the knee bolster bracket to IP trim pad retaining bolts.
  29. Tighten
    Tighten the knee bolster bracket retaining bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).


    Object Number: 182581  Size: SH
  30. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC - Automatic.
  31. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  32. Install the hazard warning and cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control and Hazard Warning Switch Replacement .
  33. Connect the electrical connector to the IP cluster.

  34. Object Number: 182576  Size: SH
  35. Install the IP cluster into position.
  36. Install the IP cluster retaining screws.
  37. Tighten
    Tighten the IP cluster retaining screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  38. Install the IP cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .

  39. Object Number: 182722  Size: SH
  40. Connect the electrical connectors to the IP switch bank.
  41. Install the switch bank into position on the IP trim pad.
  42. Install the IP switch bank retaining screws.
  43. Tighten
    Tighten the IP switch bank retaining screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  44. Position the hood release handle to the IP trim pad.
  45. Install the hood release handle retaining bolts.
  46. Tighten
    Tighten the hood release handle retaining bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).


    Object Number: 182688  Size: SH
  47. Align the IP steering column opening filler panel to the IP trim pad, then carefully press into place to secure the retainers.
  48. Install the DLC into position.
  49. Install the DLC retaining screws.
  50. Tighten
    Tighten the DLC retaining screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  51. Install the LH IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .

  52. Object Number: 182588  Size: SH
  53. Install the cigarette lighter socket. Refer to Cigar Lighter Housing Replacement - Instrument Panel .
  54. Install the HVAC control. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC - Manual, or Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC - Automatic.
  55. Install the radio control. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  56. Connect the heated seat switch electrical connector, if equipped.
  57. Align the IP accessory trim plate retainers to the slots in the IP trim pad.
  58. Carefully and evenly press the trim plate into place to secure the retainers.
  59. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  60. Install the LH and RH front carpet retainers. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  61. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  62. Install the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  63. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  64. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
