Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the convertible top and place the top on a clean flat surface. Refer to Folding Top Replacement .
  2. Remove the seal compression panel from the #1 bow. Refer to Folding Top Seal Compression Panel Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 784488  Size: SH
  4. Using a pair of needle-nosed pliers remove the staples that secure the top cover to the bow.
  5. Fold the top material back.

  6. Object Number: 784524  Size: SH
  7. Remove the tension cable screw and feed the cable out between the side rail and the roof bow.
  8. Remove the fourth right and the left screws attaching the top material to the #2 bow.
  9. Remove the #5 bow weatherstrip. Refer to Folding Top Weatherstrip Replacement .
  10. If you are going to reuse the top material mark the location of the material on the #5 bow as a guide for reassembly.

  11. Object Number: 784534  Size: SH
  12. Using a pair of needle-nosed pliers remove the staples which secure the top cover to the bow.
  13. Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

  14. Drill out the rivets attaching the top material to the bottom of the rear side rails.
  15. Remove the top material from the #5 bow.
  16. Pull the top material from the rear side rail and from the front of the #5 bow.
  17. Remove the rear side rail weatherstrip and retainer. Refer to Folding Top Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement .

  19. Drill out the rivets that secure the top cover flaps to the rear side rail.
  20. Drill out the rivets that secure the tension cable flag to the rear side rail.

  21. Object Number: 784512  Size: SH
  22. Remove the screws attaching the rear window support straps to the #4 bow.
  23. Remove the top material.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 214592  Size: SH
  1. Position the top cover over the roof bows.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Attach the top cover to the #2 bow with screws.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Attach the rear window support straps to the #4 bow.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Rivet the flag end of the tension cable to the back side of the rear side rail.

  8. Object Number: 784524  Size: SH
  9. Route the tension cables and install the cables to the #1 bow.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  11. Rivet the top cover flags to the side rails.
  12. Rivet the top cover to the bottom of the rear side rail.
  13. Assure that both sides of the rivet are flat so the rivet will not cut the top material or interfere with the seating of the retainer to the rear side rail weatherstrip. Before stapling the top cover to the #5 bow, Refer to Folding Top Cover Tension Adjustment - Rear .
  14. Before stapling the top cover to the #1 bow, refer to Folding Top Cover Tension Adjustment - Front .
  15. Install the weatherstrips and the weatherstrip retainers to the rear side rails. Refer to Folding Top Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement .
  16. Install the folding top. Refer to Folding Top Replacement
  17. Position the folding top to the original position.
