Perform scan tool speaker test to verify that the output of all speakers is intermittent, distorted or garbled.

Does every speaker have intermittent, distorted or garbled sound?

Go to Speakers Inoperative - One or More

Insert a known good CD in the in-dash CD changer and attempt to play the CD.

Is the sound output intermittent or garbled?

Is the vehicle equipped with a remote CD changer?

Insert a known good CD in the remote CD changer and attempt to play the CD.

Is the sound output intermittent or garbled?

  1. Turn ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect radio connector and radio amplifier connector C1.
  3. Inspect connectors for poor terminal contact and verify wiring.

Are wiring and connectors OK?

Repair wiring or connectors as required.

Is repair complete?

Install a known good amplifier.

Is the sound output still intermittent or garbled?

Replace the radio amplifier. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Radio/Audio System Check .
