Check the cellular telephone audio through the handset earpiece and through the vehicle audio system.

Is the cellular telephone audio noisy through the handset earpiece only?

Is the audio also noisy when the radio or compact disk (CD) changer is on?

Diagnose the audio system. Refer to Radio/Audio System Check .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the cellular telephone module connector and the cellular telephone handset connector.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage to ground of CKT 659 (LT BLU/BLK) and the shield ground circuit.

Is the measured voltage in the range shown?

Above 0.5 Volts

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Repair CKT 659 (LT BLU/BLK) or the audio shield ground circuit for a short to battery positive voltage.

Is the circuit repair complete?

  1. Check the cellular telephone antenna coax cable for an open or short to ground.
  2. If OK, replace the cellular telephone antenna. Refer to Antenna Assembly Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Check the audio shield ground wire for an open or short to battery positive voltage.

Is the shield ground wire OK?

Repair audio shield ground wire.

Is the circuit repair complete?

Check CKT 1235 (LT BLU) for an open.

Is the circuit OK?

Repair open CKT 1235 (LT BLU).

Is the circuit repair complete?

Replace the handset and handset cord. Refer to Cellular Telephone Replacement .

After replacement, is the audio still noisy?

Check handset connector for poor terminal contact. If OK, the handset or handset cord (replaced in step 12) is faulty.

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Check cellular telephone module connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the cellular telephone module. Refer to Radio Frequency Booster and Bracket Assembly Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Cellular Telephone System Check .

Is the system check complete?
