  1. Turn radio on.
  2. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  3. Select radio (IRC).
  4. Select inputs 1 menu.
  5. Press, then release each radio button in the order listed on the scan tool.
  1. Radio turns on.
  2. Each button changes state, as observed on the scan tool, when pressed then released.
    •  Amplifier Inoperative

Radio control inoperative, replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement

Using the test tape in the Audio System Diagnostic Kit J 39916A, check all audio system functions following the directions on the tape.

All functions operate properly with no reception or noise characteristics.

Using the test CD in the Audio System Diagnostic Kit J 39916A, check all audio system functions following the directions on the CD.

All functions operate properly with no reception or noise characteristics.

    • In dash radio CD player inoperative, replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement

  1. Using the scan tool, select dash integration module (DIM).
  2. Select inputs menu.
  3. Press, then release each steering wheel control.

Each steering wheel control input changes state, as displayed on the scan tool, when the control is pressed, then released.

  1. Using the scan tool, select radio (IRC).
  2. Select data 1 menu.
  3. Tune radio to a known strong FM station.
  4. Tune radio to a known strong AM station.
  1. For the FM station, the scan tool signal strength is at least 45 dB.
  2. For the AM station, the scan tool signal strength is at least 45 dB.

If the vehicle is equipped with a remote CD changer, insert and play a known good CD. (Use the one in the Audio System Diagnostic Kit J 39916A.)

CD changer works properly and produces good sound.
