Hinge Pin Remover and Installer
Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the SIR system, if equipped with the SIR side
impact system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Tape the edges of the door and the fender in order to prevent
damage when removing.
- Remove the rubber conduit. Refer to
Front Side Door Conduit Replacement
.
- Disconnect the front door electrical connectors to the door.
- Remove the wiring harness from the front pillar.
- Support the door with a suitable stand.
- Remove the check link. Refer to
Front Side Door Check Link Replacement
.
- Remove the hinge pins
using the J 42801
.
- Remove the weather caps from the pins.
- Insert the J 42801
around the hinge collar while tapping each pin lightly with a hammer
until the hinge pin release.
- Remove the door with the aid of a assistant.
Installation Procedure
- Install the door with aid of a assistant.
- Install the hinge pins:
• | Insert the J 42801
around the hinge collar while using a small hammer to tap each pin
into the hinge hole. |
• | Install the weather caps. |
- Remove the door support.
- Inspect the door to body alignment.
- Install the check link. Refer to
Front Side Door Check Link Replacement
.
- Install the front pillar wiring harness.
- Connect all electrical connectors that were removed.
- Install the rubber conduit. Refer to
Front Side Door Conduit Replacement
.
- Remove the tape from the door and the fender.
- Enable the SIR system, if equipped with the SIR side impact system.
