J 42801 Door Hinge Pin Remover and Installer

Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system, if equipped with the SIR side impact system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Tape the edges of the door and the fender in order to prevent damage when removing.
  3. Remove the rubber conduit. Refer to Front Side Door Conduit Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the front door electrical connectors to the door.
  5. Remove the wiring harness from the front pillar.
  6. Support the door with a suitable stand.
  7. Remove the check link. Refer to Front Side Door Check Link Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 243287  Size: SH
  9. Remove the hinge pins using the J 42801 .
  10. Remove the weather caps from the pins.
  11. Insert the J 42801 around the hinge collar while tapping each pin lightly with a hammer until the hinge pin release.
  12. Remove the door with the aid of a assistant.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the door with aid of a assistant.

  2. Object Number: 243287  Size: SH
  3. Install the hinge pins:
  4. • Insert the J 42801 around the hinge collar while using a small hammer to tap each pin into the hinge hole.
    • Install the weather caps.
  5. Remove the door support.
  6. Inspect the door to body alignment.
  7. Install the check link. Refer to Front Side Door Check Link Replacement .
  8. Install the front pillar wiring harness.
  9. Connect all electrical connectors that were removed.
  10. Install the rubber conduit. Refer to Front Side Door Conduit Replacement .
  11. Remove the tape from the door and the fender.
  12. Enable the SIR system, if equipped with the SIR side impact system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
