Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step  2

  1. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the off position.
  2. Turn the ignition on.

Are the windshield wipers on?

Go to Step  3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor relay K8.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the off position.
  3. Turn the ignition on.

Are the windshield wipers on?

Go to Step  9

Go to Step  4

  1. Connect a test lamp from battery positive voltage to the wiper motor position switch signal circuit terminal in the wiper motor relay connector.
  2. Turn the ignition on.
  3. Turn the windshield wiper switch to the low speed position.

Does the test lamp flash every time the wiper arms are in the park position?

Go to Step  6

Test and repair the wiper motor position switch signal circuit for an open, high resistance or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step  15

  1. Disconnect the delay wipers interval switch connector.
  2. Install the windshield wiper motor relay K8.
  3. Turn the ignition on.

Are the windshield wipers on?

Go to Step  8

Test and repair the delay switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step  15

Test and repair the interval switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step  15

Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch connector.

Do the windshield wipers stop?

Go to Step  10

Repair the wiper motor relay function supply circuit to the wiper/washer switch for a short to voltage. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  15

Test and repair the following circuits for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • wiper motor low speed supply circuit
    • wiper motor high speed supply circuit

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step  15

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the windshield wiper motor relay K8.

Replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .
