Did you review the system operation and perform the necessary inspection?

Go to Step  2

Go to Symptoms - Hydraulic Brakes

  1. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between the park brake indicator switch connector and ground Refer to Using Fused Jumper Wires in Wiring Systems.

Does the brake indicator lamp illuminate?

Go to Step  5

  1. Disconnect the brake fluid minimum capacity sensor connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the brake fluid minimum capacity sensor connector terminal B and a known good ground. Refer to Using Fused Jumper Wires in Wiring Systems.

Does the brake indicator lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 6

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in the brake signal circuit
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in the brake signal circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 8

Replace the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 8

  1. Replace the brake indicator lamp. Refer to Instrument Cluster Indicator Lamp Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
  2. Reconnect all of the connectors and the components that were disconnected.
  3. Engage the park brake.

Does the brake indicator lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 7

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in the brake light signal circuit
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in the brake light signal circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. If the circuit is OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 8

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Does the brake warning lamp operate with the parking brake set?

Go to Step 3

Go to Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Disconnect the brake fluid minimum capacity sensor connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between terminal A and terminal B of the brake fluid minimum capacity sensor connector. Refer to Using Fused Jumper Wires in Wiring Systems.

Does the brake indicator lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in the brake light signal circuit or brake fluid sensor ground.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in the brake light signal circuit or brake fluid sensor ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the master cylinder reservoir cap.
