Removal Procedure
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery
cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to
Intake Air Resonator Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.0L (L81).
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.0L (L81).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the generator cooling duct from the generator cooling duct
cap.
- Remove the field coil
terminal nut (1) from the generator.
- Remove the field coil terminal lead from the generator.
- Remove the positive battery cable nut (2) from the generator.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the generator.
- Remove the generator upper
mounting nut (4).
- Remove the generator lower mounting nut.
- Remove the generator through bolts (1,2).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the generator (3).
- Remove the generator cooling duct cap screws.
- Remove the generator cooling duct cap.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator cooling duct cap.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the generator
cooling duct cap screws.
Tighten
Tighten the generator cooling duct screws to 1 N·m (9 lb in).
- Position the generator (3)
in the mounting position.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the generator through bolts (1,2).
- Install the generator lower mounting nut.
Tighten
Tighten the generator lower mounting nut to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install the generator upper mounting nut (4).
Tighten
Tighten the generator upper mounting nut (4) to 40 N·m
(30 lb ft).
- Install the positive battery
cable to the generator.
- Install the positive battery cable nut (2) to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the positive battery cable nut (2) to 8 N·m
(71 lb in).
- Install the field coil terminal lead to the generator.
- Install the field coil terminal lead nut (1) to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the field coil terminal lead nut (1) to 3.5 N·m
(31 lb in).
- Install the generator cooling duct to the generator cooling duct
cap.
- Lower the vehicle.
