Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
    2. •  Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
  2. On the passenger door only, disconnect the temperature control electrical connector.
  3. Remove the armrest bracket fasteners and the bracket from the door (Oldsmobile front doors only).

  4. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .

    5. Object Number: 284132 Size: SH
  5. Drill out the rivets (1) that secure the inside remote door handle to the door.
  6. Remove the inside remote door handle mounting screw.
  7. Disengage the wire harness retaining clip.

    8. Object Number: 284139 Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the outside handle to the lock rod.

    9. Important: The lock rod clip is very fragile.

  9. Disconnect the lock cylinder to lock rod (1).

    10. Object Number: 284130 Size: SH
  10. Remove the fasteners from the door lock.
  11. Partially remove the following components from the door:
    12. • The inside handle
    • The rods (2,3)
    • The lock (1)
  12. Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the lock.
  13. Remove the door latch assembly from the door.

  14. Disconnect the rods from the inside remote door handle assembly (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 284132 Size: SH
  1. Connect the rods to the inside remote door handle assembly (2).

    2. Object Number: 284130 Size: SH
  2. Install the door latch assembly to the door (1).
  3. Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the lock.
  4. Install the following components to the door:
    5. • The inside handle
    • The rods (2,3)
    • The lock (1)
  5. Install the 3 fasteners to the door lock.

    6. Important: The lock rod clip is very fragile.

  6. Connect the lock rod (1) to the lock cylinder.

  7. Connect the outside handle (2) to the lock rod.

    8. Object Number: 284132 Size: SH
  8. Connect the wire harness and the retaining clip.
  9. Install the inside remote door handle mounting screw.
  10. Install new peel-type rivets (1) in order to secure the inside door handle (2) to the door.

    11. Object Number: 284109 Size: SH
  11. Install the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  12. Install the arm rest bracket and the fasteners.
  13. Place the door trim panel near the door.
  14. On the passenger door only, connect the temperature control electrical connector.
  15. Install the door trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
    16. 15.1.  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    15.2.  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    15.3.  Door Trim Panel Replacement
