Removal Procedure

    Notice: Proper sealing is necessary in order to prevent water entry into the door and possible damage to inner door components.

  1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
  2. •  Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
  3. Remove the 2 fasteners securing the door trim hanger bracket (Oldsmobile only).
  4. Remove the door trim hanger bracket (1) (Oldsmobile front doors only).
  5. Remove the 2 retainers (2) that secure the top of the water deflector (3).
  6. Important: Remember the electrical wire harness routing for re-installation.

  7. Remove the water deflector (3) by peeling the water deflector from the door (4).

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Proper sealing is necessary in order to prevent water entry into the door and possible damage to inner door components.

  1. Install the water deflector (3) over the inside handle.
  2. Align the water deflector with the top of the inner door panel.
  3. Apply pressure in order to hold the deflector in position.

  4. Install the 2 upper water deflector retainers (2).
  5. Carefully guide the wire harness through the slits in the water deflector.
  6. Install the extruded pockets as required.
  7. Remove any wrinkles.
  8. Secure the bottom center of the deflector by working forward and in an upward direction.
  9. Work the seal rearward and up from the bottom center.
  10. Install the door trim hanger bracket (1) (Oldsmobile front doors only).
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the front door trim hanger fastener.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the front door trim hanger fastener first to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  14. Install the rearward door trim hanger fastener.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the rearward fastener to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  16. Install the door trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
  17. •  Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
