Verify the ambient temperature displayed on the HVAC control assembly is greater than 41°F (5°C).

Inspect the A/C compressor clutch coil connector.

Is the connector loose or disconnected?

Connect or repair the A/C compressor clutch coil connector. Refer to Repairing Connector Terminals in Wiring Systems.

Does the A/C compressor operate?

System OK

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to rotate the A/C compressor clutch by hand.

Is the compressor seized?

--

Go to Step 6

Test the operation of the A/C compressor clutch by connecting a fused jumper wire between the B+ terminal and the clutch coil terminal A. Refer to Using Fused Jumper Wires in Wiring Systems.

Does the clutch engage?

--

Go to Step 7

Replace the A/C compressor assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Remove the jumper wire.
  2. Examine the system low-side pressure.

Is the pressure reading more than the specified value?

310 kPa (45 psi)

Connect a fused jumper wire from good ground to the A/C compressor clutch coil terminal B. Refer to Using Fused Jumper Wires in Wiring Systems.

Does the clutch engage?

Replace the A/C compressor clutch coil. Refer to Compressor Clutch Coil Removal (V5 - Conventional Mount) .

Is the repair complete?

Repair the ground circuit problem. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Examine the system high-side pressure.

Is the pressure reading more than the specified value?

310 kPa (45 psi)

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Inspect for a plugged expansion tube or a high-side restriction. Refer to Expansion (Orifice) Tube Replacement .
  3. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

Is the repair complete?

System OK

The refrigerant charge is insufficient.

  1. Perform a leak test. Refer to Leak Testing .
  2. Perform any necessary repairs.
  3. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Select the AUTO mode.
  3. Disconnect the low side temperature sensor connector.
  4. Connect the fused jumper wire between the switch connector terminals. Refer to Using Fused Jumper Wires in Wiring Systems.

Does the clutch engage?
