Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 37097-A Hose
Clamp Remover/Installer
- Drain the cooling system.
Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
- Position the J 37097-A
in order to remove the heater hose clamps.
- Remove the heater hoses
from the heater core.
- Remove the console assembly. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Remove the auxiliary air distribution duct. Refer to
Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement
.
- Remove the heater core
heat shield cover from the HVAC module.
- Remove the air filter access cover.
Important: In order to access the heater core care must be taken when moving the
heater core cover. The cover may crack, especially when cold.
- Remove the heater core cover screws.
- Lower and move the cover in order to obtain enough access in order
to remove the heater core.
- Remove the retaining bolts
and straps from the heater core.
- Remove the heater core.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the heater
core into the HVAC module and attach the retaining straps and screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the heater core
cover and the attaching screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1 N·m (12 lb in).
- Install the air filter access cover.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1 N·m (12 lb in).
- Install the heater core heat shield cover.
- Install the auxiliary air distribution duct. Refer to
Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement
.
- Install the console assembly. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Install the heater hoses.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
