  1. Test the transmitter battery and replace if necessary. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement .
  2. Press each button on the transmitter one at a time.

Lock and unlock the door locks using the controls inside the vehicle.

Operate the hatch glass release from the control inside the vehicle.

Important: Ensure that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system.

Important: Failure to initiate the keyless diagnostics properly will result in a mis-diagnosis.

Perform the keyless transmitter diagnostics. To initiate the diagnostics:

  1. Close all doors.
  2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and remove.
  3. Within 5 seconds, insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn ON the ignition and then turn it OFF and remove the key.
  4. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition ON then OFF 9 times.
  5. Turn ON the ignition a final time.

The dome lamp will light for 0.25 second, extinguish for 0.25 second and then light for 0.5 second. This will confirm that the sequence was completed properly and remote control door lock receiver is in diagnostic mode.

Press the LOCK button and hold.

The dome lamp should blink once, pause for 0.5 second and repeat the sequence.

Press the UNLOCK button and hold.

The dome lamp should blink twice, pause for 0.5 second and repeat the sequence.

Did the dome lamp react as described?

Press the HATCH button and hold.

The dome lamp should light for 0.5 second, pause for 0.5 second and repeat the sequence.

  1. Program the transmitter. Refer to Transmitter Programming .
  2. After programming the transmitter, press each button one at a time.

Important: Diagnostics must still be active to perform this step.

  1. Obtain another transmitter from the same type vehicle.
  2. Press each button one at a time and hold momentarily.

Test for battery positive voltage at the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the ground circuit of the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test for an open or short to ground condition of the lock/unlock signal circuit between the remote control door lock receiver and the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect the harness connectors of the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
