Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Use a TORX® driver in order to remove the bolts from the back of the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the driver inflator module (1) from the steering wheel.
  4. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling, Shipping, and Scrapping .
  5. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the electrical connector to the driver inflator module.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the driver inflator module and all other electrical connectors (2).
  7. Disconnect the horn ground lead from the steering wheel.
  8. Rotate the horn contact lead counterclockwise ¼ turn in order to remove the horn contact lead from the steering column cam tower.

Installation Procedure

  1. Rotate the horn contact lead ¼ turn clockwise in order to install the horn contact lead to the steering column cam tower.
  2. Connect the horn ground lead to the steering wheel.
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the back of the driver inflator module and all other electrical connector (2).
  4. Install the CPA (3) to the driver inflator module electrical connector.
  5. Install the driver inflator module (1) to the steering wheel.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Use a TORX® driver in order to secure the module to the back of the steering wheel.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
