The SECURITY indicator lamp notifies the driver of the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system status. The theft deterrent control module controls the operation of the SECURITY indicator lamp. The SECURITY indicator lamp is part of the instrument panel cluster. Based on system status the SECURITY indicator may remain OFF, illuminate ON steady, or FLASH.
The ignition is ON.
The theft deterrent control module detects a low current condition in the SECURITY indicator lamp control circuit for one second.
• | DTC B0687 and DTC B0689 cycle as current DTCs every five seconds in the theft deterrent control module. |
• | DTC B0687 and DTC B0689 are set as a history DTC in the theft deterrent control module's non-volatile memory. |
• | The theft deterrent control module no longer detects an low current condition in the SECURITY indicator lamp control circuit. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive fault free ignition cycles. |
• | Using a scan tool in order to clear a history DTC. |
Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems.
Verifies the condition for setting the DTC is current.
Checks for an intermittent short to ground in the SECURITY indicator control circuit.
Checks the SECURITY indicator control circuit for a short to ground.
Determines whether the short to ground is in the instrument panel cluster or in the theft deterrent module.
