  1. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  2. Ensure that the IP dimmer switch is off.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Open and close each of the vehicle doors.

Do the courtesy lights turn on with a door open and turn off when all of the doors are closed?

  1. Ensure that the IP dimmer switch is off and that all of the vehicle doors are closed.
  2. Turn the ignition switch from the RUN position to the OFF position.
  3. Observe the courtesy lights and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder.

Do the courtesy lights turn on when you remove the key from the ignition key cylinder?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Lower all of the vehicle windows. Ensure that all of the windows are completely down.
  3. Insert the key in the ignition key lock cylinder.
  4. Leave the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  5. Open the driver's door.
  6. Observe the door locks and momentarily press LOCK on the door lock switch.
  7. Close the driver's door.
  8. Open the left rear door.
  9. Reach through the driver's window opening. Observe the door locks and momentarily press LOCK on the door lock switch.
  10. Open the right front door.
  11. Observe the door locks and momentarily press LOCK on the door lock switch.
  12. Close the right front door.
  13. Open the right rear door.
  14. Reach through the right front window opening. Observe the door locks and momentarily press LOCK on the door lock switch.
  15. Determine if the doors do not lock when the following conditions exist:
  16. • You press LOCK on either door lock switch.
    • The key is in the ignition key lock cylinder.
    • A door is open.

Do the door locks operate as described above?

The lockout prevention feature is malfunctioning due to a malfunction between the BCM and the driver's door lock ajar switch. Refer to Interior Lamps System Check in Lighting Systems.

Is the repair complete?

The lockout prevention feature is inoperative due to a malfunction between the BCM and the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Audible Warnings System Check in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

The lockout prevention feature is working as designed. Refer to Automatic Door Lock Circuit Description .

  1. Inspect the BCM connectors for poor terminal contact.
  2. If the terminal contact is not poor, replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reconnect all of the connectors.
  3. Reinstall any components that you removed.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  6. Remove the MALL PGM fuse.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  8. The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type that is installed on the vehicle.

  9. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the OFF position and back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any stored DTCs.
