Makes 🢒 Pontiac 🢒 2005 🢒 GTO 🢒 Body 🢒 Body Rear End 🢒 Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove license plate.
  2. Open the rear compartment.
  3. Remove the rear compartment lid trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Inner Panel Trim Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 1243384 Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the license lamp harness (1).

    5. Object Number: 1243409 Size: SH
  5. Remove the 3 TORX® screws (1) and seals from the rear compartment lid applique.
  6. Remove the 4 screws (2) and seals from the rear compartment lid applique.
  7. Remove the 2 nuts (3) and seals from the rear compartment lid applique.

    8. Object Number: 1243738 Size: SH
  8. Remove the screws (1) from the left and right sides of the rear compartment lid.
  9. Press the tabs and remove the retainers (2) from the left and right sides of the rear compartment lid, if necessary.

    10. Object Number: 1243742 Size: SH
  10. Remove the applique assembly (3) away from the rear compartment lid (1).
  11. Remove the license lamp wiring harness grommet (2) and remove the license lamp wiring harness from the rear compartment lid (1).

    12. Object Number: 1243812 Size: SH
  12. Press the tab (7) and lower the rear license lamp housing assembly (6) from the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  13. Rotate the license lamp bulb sockets (10) counter-clockwise and remove license lamp housing (6).
  14. Remove the license lamp wiring harness (1) from the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  15. Remove the seal (9) from the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  16. Remove the rear compartment lid applique gaskets (5) from the left and right sides of the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  17. Remove the 4 screws (4), seals (3) and retainers (2) from the rear compartment lid applique (8).

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the 4 retainers (2), seals (3) and screws (4) to the rear compartment lid applique (8).

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  2. Install the rear compartment lid applique gaskets (5) to the left and right sides of the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  3. Install the seal (9) to the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  4. Position the license lamp harness (1) to the rear compartment lid applique (8).
  5. Install the license lamp sockets (10) to the rear license lamp housing (6), by turning clockwise.
  6. Install the license lamp housing (6) to the rear compartment lid applique (8), making sure the tab (7) is secured.

  7. Install the license lamp wiring harness to the rear compartment lid (1) ensuring that the grommet (2) is seated to the rear compartment lid (1).
  8. Position the rear compartment lid applique assembly (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).

    9. Object Number: 1243738 Size: SH
  9. Install the retainers (2) to the left and right sides of the rear compartment lid, if removed.
  10. Install the screws (1) to the left and right sides of the rear compartment lid.

    11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).


    Object Number: 1243409 Size: SH
  11. Install the seals and nuts (3) to the rear compartment lid applique.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 3 N·m (26 lb in).

  12. Install the seals and 4 screws (2) to the rear compartment lid applique.

    13. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  13. Install the seals and the 3 TORX® screws (1) to the rear compartment lid applique.

    14. Tighten
    Tighten the TORX® screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  14. Connect the license lamp harness connector (1).
  15. Install the rear compartment lid trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Inner Panel Trim Replacement .
  16. Close the rear compartment.
  17. Install the license plate.
