Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn on the radio.
  4. With a scan tool, perform a speaker test on each speaker.

Does each speaker operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Are all of the speakers inoperative?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the inoperative speaker.
  2. Measure the A/C voltage between the speaker connector terminals of the inoperative speaker.

When music is playing is any voltage measured?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 5

Test the output circuits to the appropriate speaker for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Test all speaker output circuits from the radio for a short to B+ or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit to the audio amplifier for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the 14 V ref circuit to the audio amplifier for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test all speaker output circuits from the radio for a short to B+ or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn on the radio.
  3. Measure AC voltage from any speaker output (+) circuit to the corresponding speaker output (-) circuit, at the audio amplifier.

Is any voltage measured?
