Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the engine mount strut bracket on the right side. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
  8. Remove the compressor hose assembly from rear of the compressor. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .

  10. Remove the rear compressor mounting bracket.
  11. Remove the compressor mounting nuts.
  12. Remove the compressor.
  13. Remove the bracket with the mounting bolts, if necessary.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the bracket with the mounting bolts, if necessary.
  2. Tighten

    • Tighten the bracket upper bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    • Tighten the bracket lower bolt to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  3. Install the compressor.
  4. Install the compressor nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor nuts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  6. Install the rear compressor bracket and bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket bolts to 31 N·m (23 lb ft).

  8. Install the compressor hose assembly to the rear of the compressor. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  9. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
  10. Install the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  13. Install the engine mount strut bracket on the right side. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
