For 1990-2009 cars only

Perform the following front end inspections before you make any adjustments that affect the wheel alignment:

  1. Inspect for the proper inflation pressure of the tires. Refer to Tire Inflation Pressure Specifications in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  2. Inspect for excessive wear on the hub and on the bearing assemblies.
  3. Inspect the following components:
  4. • The ball joints
    • The tie rod ends
  5. Inspect the tires and the wheels for runout.
  6. Inspect the vehicle trim heights. Refer to Trim Height Specifications . Make any needed corrections to trim the height before you adjust the following components:
  7. • The caster
    • The camber
    • The toe-in
  8. Inspect for looseness of the steering gear to the crossmember. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  9. Inspect the struts for leaks.
  10. Inspect the struts for noise.
  11. Inspect for looseness of the control arms or looseness of the stabilizer shaft attachments. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement and Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement in Front Suspension.
  12. Important: The vehicle must be on a level surface.

  13. Inspect the alignment equipment. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
