Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check For Body Rear End?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the trunk.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter in the Rear Integration Module data list.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release solenoid.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the trunk ajar switch and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Step 5

Test the signal circuit of the trunk ajar switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the trunk ajar switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release solenoid. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear integration module (RIM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lid release solenoid. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Replacement in Body Rear End.

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the RIM. Refer to Rear Integration Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
