Press the trunk release button on the driver's door.

Does the trunk open?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF, car in PARK.
  3. With a scan tool, view the Trunk Release Switch input parameter in the DDM data list.
  4. Operate the trunk release switch.

Does the parameter change state?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the fuel door/trunk release switch.
  2. With a scan tool, view the Trunk Release Switch input parameter in the DDM data list.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the trunk release switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Does the parameter change state?

  1. With a scan tool, view the Trunk Release Switch input parameter in the DDM data list.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the trunk release switch signal circuit and the fuel door/trunk release switch ground circuit.

  1. Verify that the valet switch is in the CLOSED position.
  2. With a scan tool, command the Trunk Release Relay ON and OFF.

Did you hear the trunk release relay click?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator control voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and a good ground.
  3. Command the Trunk Release Relay ON.

Does the test lamp turn ON for 1 second?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator control voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and the rear compartment lid release actuator ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Command the Trunk Release Relay ON.

Does the test lamp turn ON for 1 second?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the trunk release relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the valet switch control circuit of the trunk release relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the valet switch control circuit of the trunk release relay and the control circuit of the trunk release relay.
  2. With a scan tool, command the Trunk Release Relay ON and OFF .

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Does the test lamp remain illuminated with each command?

  1. Disconnect the valet switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the input circuit of the valet switch and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the battery positive circuit of the valet switch and the valet switch control circuit of the valet switch.
  2. Probe the valet switch control circuit of the trunk release relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Test the valet switch control circuit of the trunk release relay for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
