Water Pump Replacement 4.3L

1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement or Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
3. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
4. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
5. Remove the cooling fan clutch.



6. Remove the coolant pump drive pulley.
7. Loosen the radiator outlet hose clamp.
8. Remove radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump.



9. Remove the coolant pump attaching bolts.



10. Remove the coolant pump from the engine.



11. Remove the coolant pump gaskets.
12. Be sure all mating surfaces are clean and free of gasket material or burs.

1. Install the coolant pump gaskets.



2. Install the coolant pump to the engine.
3. Apply sealant to the bolt threads.




Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the coolant pump attaching bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the attaching bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

5. Place the radiator outlet hose clamp loosely on the end of the hose.
6. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the coolant pump.
7. Tighten the radiator hose clamp.



8. Install the coolant pump drive pulley.
9. Install the fan clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
10. Install the cooling fan.
11. Install the multiple ribbed accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement or Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
12. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
13. Fill the radiator with the specified coolant and concentration. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
14. Check the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing .

Water Pump Replacement 2.2L

1. Remove the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement or Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
3. Remove upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
4. Remove the fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
5. Remove the fan clutch assembly.



6. Remove the coolant pump drive pulley.



7. Remove the coolant pump attaching nuts and bolts.
8. Remove the coolant pump.



9. Remove the coolant pump gasket.
10. Inspect, to make sure all parts are free of burs or other imperfections, replace as necessary.
11. Clean all of the mating surfaces.

1. Install the coolant pump gasket to the engine.



2. Install the coolant pump to the engine.
3. Apply sealant to the bolt threads.

4. Install the coolant pump attaching bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the coolant pump attaching bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




5. Install the coolant pump drive pulley.
6. Install the fan clutch assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
7. Install the cooling fan.
8. Install the multiple ribbed accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement or Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
9. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
10. Fill the radiator with the specified coolant and concentration. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
11. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing .
