Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 41240 Fan Clutch Wrench

  1. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 42910  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fan clutch to the coolant pump drive pulley attaching nuts using J 41240 .
  4. Separate the fan clutch assembly from the coolant pump drive pulley.
  5. Remove the fan and the fan clutch as an assembly.

  6. Object Number: 42875  Size: SH
  7. Remove the fan-to-fan clutch mounting screws (2.2L w/o AC).

  8. Object Number: 42877  Size: SH
  9. Remove the fan to fan clutch mounting screws (4.3L all and 2.2L w/AC).
  10. Remove the fan from the clutch.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 42875  Size: SH
  1. Install the fan to the fan clutch mounting (2.2L w/o AC).

  2. Object Number: 42877  Size: SH
  3. Install the fan to the fan clutch mounting (4.3L all and 2.2L w/AC).
  4. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 42910  Size: SH
  6. Install the fan clutch to the coolant pump pulley using the J 41240 .
  7. Install the attaching nuts.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: To maintain a balanced fan assembly, align the yellow paint mark on the fan clutch hub with the yellow paint mark on the water pump hub.

  9. Attach the fan to the clutch with the attaching screws.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

    Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 24 N·m (17 lb ft).
