Did you review the Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Description and the Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Circuit Description and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Symptoms - Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control

1. Place the manual selector in Park.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

Does the shift lock control operate with the brake pedal released?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Test for battery voltage at terminal 4 of the shift lock solenoid connector. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 7

Test for a short to voltage in the ORN/WHT wire between the stoplamp switch and the shift lock solenoid. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is a short to voltage present?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Repair the short to voltage in the ORN/WHT wire between the stoplamp switch and the shift lock solenoid. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 8

Replace the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 8

Replace the shift lock solenoid. Refer to Shift Lock Solenoid .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 8

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
