1. Install scan tool.
2. Establish communication with the BCM.

Can communication be established with the BCM?

Go to Step 3

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System

Check for any stored DTCs in the BCM or the instrument panel cluster that may affect serial data communications.

Are any DTCs stored?

Go to applicable diagnostic table

Go to Step 4

Inspect the wiring harness connecting the instrument panel dimmer rheostat to the instrument cluster for damage, looseness, or exposed wiring.

Is the wiring harness good?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 5

Repair or replace the wiring harness connecting the instrument panel dimmer rheostat to the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

Go To Interior Lights Dimming System Check

Replace the instrument panel dimmer rheostat.

Refer to Instrument Panel Lamp Dimmer Switch Replacement .

Is the interior lights dimming function returned to normal operation?

Go To Interior Lights Dimming System Check

Go to Step 7

Replace the instrument panel.

Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Is the repair complete?
