Removal Procedure

For rear suspension components, refer to Rear Suspension Components .

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist and support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.
  2. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the vehicle, if equipped. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement .
  3. Remove the leaf spring from the rear hanger.
  4. Loosen but do not remove the spring to shackle nut and the bolt.

  5. Remove the following components that secure the shackle to the rear hanger:
  6. • The nut
    • The bolt
    • The washers
  7. Remove the following components that secure the leaf spring to the front hanger:
  8. • The nut
    • The bolt
    • The washers
  9. Remove the leaf spring from the front hanger.
  10. Remove the following components that secure the shackle to the leaf spring:
  11. • The nut
    • The bolt
  12. Remove the shackle from the leaf spring.

  14. Remove the following components:
  15. • The U-bolt nuts (1,2,3,4)
    • The washers
    • The rear stabilizer anchor, if equipped
    • The anchor plate
    • The top anchor
    • The spacer
    • The auxiliary spring, if equipped
    • The U-bolts
  16. Remove the leaf spring from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

For rear suspension components, refer to Rear Suspension Components .

  1. Install the leaf spring to the rear axle.
  2. Install the taperleaf spring with the tapered end forward.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the following parts:
  4. • The spacer
    • The top anchor
    • The auxiliary spring, if equipped
    • The anchor plate
    • The U-bolts
    • The washers
    • The nuts

    Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts initially, in the sequence given (1,2,3,4), to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Perform the final torque, in the sequence given, to 260 N·m (192 lb ft).
  5. Install the shackle to the leaf spring.
  6. Install the following parts:
  7. • The bolt
    • Ensure that the bolt is positioned correctly.
    • The washer
    • The nuts
    • Do not tighten.
  8. Install the leaf spring to the front hanger.
  9. Install the following parts:
  10. • The bolt
    • The washer
    • The nuts
    • Do not tighten.
  11. Install the leaf spring to the rear hanger.
  12. Install the following parts:
  13. • The bolt
    • The washer
    • The nuts

    Tighten
    Tighten the shackle and the hanger nuts to 135 N·m (100 lb ft).

  14. Install the stabilizer shaft to the vehicle, if equipped.
  15. Lower the support on the rear axle.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
