    • J 28467-400 Engine Support Bracket
    • J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 60047  Size: SH
  6. Install J 28467-360 and J 28467-400 onto the generator stud-ended bolt. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  7. Remove the upper fasteners from the front cover.
  8. Remove the engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  9. Raise the engine.

  11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  12. Remove the right front wheel and the tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  14. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .

  16. Remove the lower front cover bolts.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Remove the front cover and the gasket.
  19. Inspect the front cover gasket. Replace a damaged gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front cover gasket. The gasket is reusable and does not require sealer.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper front cover bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the front cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Install the remaining front cover fasteners.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the front cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  8. Lubricate the front oil seal and the sealing surface of the crankshaft balancer with chassis grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent.
  9. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  10. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  14. Install the engine mounting bracket.
  15. Notice: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened, and therefore MUST be replaced anytime it is removed. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.

    Important: If you remove these bolts, replace with new bolts.

  16. Install the engine mounting bracket bolts.
  17. Tighten
    Use J 36660-A in order to tighten the engine mounting bracket bolts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft) + 90 degrees.

  18. Install the engine mount assembly. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  19. Remove J 28467-400 and J 28467-360 .
  20. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  21. Install the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  22. Fill cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  23. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
