Schematic Reference: Navigation System Schematics

DEFINITION: When using the navigation system, the GPS icon does not appear on the navigation display head (NDH).

Did you perform Diagnostic System Check - Navigation System ?

  1. Move the vehicle to an open area outside of the building.
  2. Turn ON the ignition. The Cadillac emblem screen appears on the navigation display head (NDH).
  3. Press the MAP REPEAT button on the NDH.
  4. When the navigation disclaimer screen appears, press the I AGREE button on the display.
  5. The display should show the current position of the vehicle. The GPS icon should appear on the upper left corner of the screen, indicating that the navigation system has proper GPS reception.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Using the navigation display head (NDH), enter the navigation self-test. Refer to Navigation Diagnostic Self-Test Features .
  2. From the DIAGNOSIS MENU screen, select NAVI.
  3. From the NAVI DIAG MENU screen, select GPS INFO.
  4. From the GPS INFO screen, press the SAT button. The SATELLITE INFO screen shows the current GPS reception status. (Note that if the CND field is blank for a particular satellite, the satellite is not being received.)

Does the system have GPS reception with four or more satellites?

  1. Leave the vehicle outside with the ignition ON or set to ACC for 30 minutes.
  2. Use the navigation self-test to determine the current GPS reception status. Refer to Navigation Diagnostic Self-Test Features .

Does the system have GPS reception with four or more satellites?

  1. Remove the GPS antenna from its location on the rear shelf.
  2. Place the GPS antenna outside of the vehicle, connected to the navigation module, and positioned horizontally.
  3. Turn ON the ignition and turn on the navigation system.

Does the GPS icon appear on the navigation display head (NDH)?

Inspect the rear window glass for tinting or any other alterations or obstructions.

Is the rear window glass OK?

Remove the rear window glass tinting or other alterations.

Replace the GPS antenna. Refer to Global Positioning System (GPS) Antenna Replacement .
