Schematic Reference: Navigation System Schematics

DEFINITION: The navigation voice guidance is inoperative (you can not hear voice commands), or the voice guidance volume is reduced or noisy.

Did you perform Diagnostic System Check - Navigation System ?

  1. Turn ON the ignition. The Cadillac emblem screen appears on the navigation display head (NDH).
  2. Press the NAV MENU button on the NDH.
  3. When the navigation disclaimer screen appears, press the I AGREE button on the display.
  4. Press the MAP/REPEAT button on the NDH. The display should show the current position of the vehicle. The navigation map should be clear and have clear color.
  5. Press the NAV MENU button on the NDH. Select voice guidance under the navigation main menu.
  6. Test drive the vehicle. The voice commands should be clear and they should guide the route.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine off.
  2. Make sure the voice guidance is turned on.
  3. Make sure the audio level is adjusted to a high enough level. Use the test button on the navigation display head (NDH) to verify.

Is the audio portion of the voice guidance system operational?

Go to Step 7

Test the following circuits for an open, a short to ground or a short to voltage.

    • The navigation mono audio signal (+) circuit
    • The navigation mono audio signal (-) circuit
    • The drain wire

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the navigation module (NAV). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the navigation module (NAV). Refer to Navigation Data Processor Replacement .
