Disassembly Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture
    • J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Lock Plate Compressor Adapter
    • J 42640 Steering Column Anti Rotation Pin
  1. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement - Off Vehicle .

    2. Object Number: 312419 Size: SH
  2. Remove the bearing retainer (6) using tools J 23653-SIR and J 42137 . Dispose of the bearing retainer (6).
  3. Remove the cam orientation plate (5).
  4. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4).
  5. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).
  6. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2).
  7. Remove the inner race (1).

Assembly Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture
    • J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Lock Plate Compressor Adapter
    • J 42640 Steering Column Anti Rotation Pin

    Object Number: 312427 Size: SH
  1. Install the inner race (1).
  2. Install the upper bearing inner race seat (2).
  3. Install the upper bearing spring (3).
  4. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1). Lubricate with synthetic grease.

    5. Object Number: 312435 Size: SH
  5. Install the cam orientation plate (2).
  6. Install the new bearing retainer (1) using tools J 23653-SIR and J 42137 . The bearing retainer (1) must be firmly seated in the groove on the race and upper shaft assembly.
  7. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement - Off Vehicle .
