DEFINITION: This table diagnoses inoperative lumbar support, does not move up or down (AM3), in the passenger seat.

Did you perform the entire Lumbar Support: Memory System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the lumbar switch connector.
  3. Operate the lumbar switch in the UP position.
  4. Connect a J 39200 between the lumbar switch connector cavity G (ORN) and cavity B (RED) (RH drive) or cavity C (RED) (LH drive).

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Test CKT 793 (RED) for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is the wiring OK?

Test CKT 792 (YEL) for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Replace the lumbar switch. Refer to Lumbar Switch Replacement .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Disconnect the passenger lumbar vertical motor connector.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between battery positive voltage (B+) and one of the lumbar motor cavities.
  4. Connect a fused jumper between the other lumbar motor cavity and ground.

Does the motor run?

Test for an open or short to ground in CKT 793 (TAN) between the lumbar massage module and the passenger lumbar vertical motor. Refer to Testing for Continuity or Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

Is the wiring OK?

Test for an open or short to ground in CKT 792 (PPL) between the lumbar massage module and the passenger lumbar vertical motor. Refer to Testing for Continuity or Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

Is the wiring OK?

Replace the passenger lumbar vertical motor. Refer to Front Seat Lumbar Support Replacement .

Test for proper terminal contact at the lumbar massage module connector. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.

Is terminal contact OK?

Test for an open in CKT 3740 (ORN) between the lumbar massage module connector cavity A and splice S312 (LH drive) or splice S314 (RH drive). Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is the wiring OK?

Test for an open in CKT 650 (BLK) (LH drive) or CKT 550 (BLK) (RH drive) between the lumbar massage module connector cavity J and splice S315 (LH drive) or splice S313 (RH drive). Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Replace the lumbar massage module. Refer to Front Seat Lumbar Support Replacement .
