Did you perform the Seat Belt System Check?

  1. Using a scan tool establish communication with the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
  2. Pull up Special Functions in Instrument Panel Cluster.
  3. Go to WOW Instrument Cluster in Output Control.
  4. In the WOW mode you can turn ON or OFF the instrument panel indicators.
  5. All indicators will turn ON when commanded on.

Does the scan tool command the FASTEN SEAT BELTS Warning Indicator ON then OFF?

Replace the Instrument Cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Is the IPC replacement complete?

Go to Seat Belt System Check

  1. Disconnect the SDM connector.
  2. Disconnect and unbuckle the LH front seat belt switch.
  3. Connect a digital multimeter (DMM) between the SDM connector cavity 1 (BLK/WHT) and ground.

Is the resistance near the specified value?

5 ohms

Repair the short to ground in CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a DMM between the LH front seat belt switch connector cavity A (BLK/WHT) and cavity B (BLK).

Is the resistance near the specified value?

5 ohms

Go to Step 8

Replace the LH front seat belt switch.

Is the seat belt switch replacement complete?

Replace the SDM. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement in SIR.
