Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement Gear to cooler

Removal Procedure

Notice: If the power steering system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained unless air is bled from the steering system. The air in the fluid may cause pump cavitation noise and may cause pump damage over a period of time.

  1. Remove fluid from the power steering reservoir. Refer to Draining the Power Steering System .
  2. Disconnect the hose (1) from the cooler inlet.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  4. Object Number: 604075  Size: SH
  5. Remove the hose retention clip from the front crossmember (1).
  6. Remove the pipe clip (2) from the side frame rail.
  7. Remove the hose from the steering gear.
  8. Remove the hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 604075  Size: SH
  1. Install the hose onto the vehicle.
  2. Install the hose to the steering gear.
  3. Install the clip (2) to the frame rail.
  4. Install the hose retainer (1) to the front crossmember.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the retainer to 17N·m(13 lb ft).

  6. lower the vehicle.

  8. Install the hose (1) to the cooler assembly.
  9. Fill the power steering reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the hose clamp at the power steering reservoir.
  2. Remove the hose to engine retaining bolt.

  3. Object Number: 604183  Size: SH
  4. Remove the hose at the frame rail clip (1).

  5. Object Number: 604069  Size: SH
  6. Disconnent the hose (2) from the cooler.
  7. Remove the hose (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the hose (2) to the cooler (3).

  2. Object Number: 604183  Size: SH
  3. Install the hose and clip (1) to the frame rail.

  4. Object Number: 604181  Size: SH
  5. Connect the hose to the power steering pump resevior.
  6. Install the hose clamp.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the hose retaining bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighen the bolt to 13N·m(115 lb in).

  10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
