Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the master cylinder fluid level sensor.
  2. Remove the master cylinder fluid level sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement .
  3. Remove the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  4. Important: Do not clamp on the master cylinder body.

  5. Clamp the flange on the master cylinder body in a vise

  6. Object Number: 176838  Size: SH
  7. Drive out the pins using a 1/8 inch punch.
  8. Important: Do not damage the reservoir or the cylinder body when driving out the pins.

  9. Remove the reservoir by pulling straight up and away from the cylinder body.
  10. Remove the o-rings from the grooves in the reservoir.
  11. Inspect the reservoir for cracks or deformation. Replace if damage is found.
  12. Clean the reservoir with clean denatured alcohol.
  13. Dry the reservoir with non-lubricated compressed air.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Lubricate the new o-rings and reservoir bayonets with clean brake fluid.

  1. Install the o-rings into the grooves in the reservoir.
  2. The o-rings must be properly seated.
  3. Install the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder body by pressing straight down by hand until the pin holes are aligned.

  4. Object Number: 176838  Size: SH
  5. Drive in the pins to retain the reservoir using care not to damage the reservoir or the cylinder body.
  6. Install the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  7. Install the master cylinder fluid level sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement .
  8. Connect the electrical connector to the master cylinder fluid level sensor.
