Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2. Dispose of the brake fluid. Do not reuse.
  3. Reinstall the reservoir cap with the diaphragm.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid level sensor switch (1).
  5. Remove the vehicle cross brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement
  6. Remove the tube nuts (4).
  7. Disconnect the brake fluid pipe.
  8. Plug the open brake fluid pipe to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  9. Object Number: 695564  Size: SH
  10. Remove the two attaching nuts (3).
  11. Caution: Use shop cloths to prevent any brake fluid that may leak from master cylinder or rubber hose from contacting vehicle body or electrical connections.

  12. Remove the master cylinder.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the master cylinder.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the attaching nuts (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the master cylinder attaching nuts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Connect the brake pipe to the master cylinder.
  6. Install the tube nuts (4).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten master cylinder brake pipe nuts to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

  8. Connect the electrical connector to the fluid level sensor switch (1).
  9. Do not fill above the maximum level indicator.
  10. Fill the master cylinder to the proper level with clean brake fluid.

  11. Fill the master cylinder to the proper level with clean brake fluid. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
  12. Bleed the hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  13. Install the vehicle cross brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement
  14. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Air in the brake system can cause the loss of brakes with possible personal injury.

  15. Recheck the fluid level.
