J 34730 Fuel Pressure Gauge

Removal Procedure

Caution: Provide proper ventilation when working with fuel in enclosed areas where fuel vapors can collect. The lack of adequate ventilation may result in personal injury.

Caution: Always wear safety goggles when working with fuel in order to protect the eyes from fuel splash.

  1. Relieve the fuel system fuel pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Drain the fuel tank to at least 3/4 of a tank full. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 238597  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the modular fuel sender.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector at the fuel tank pressure sensor.
  9. Remove the clip from the fuel tank pressure sensor.
  10. Remove the fuel tank pressure sensor (1) from the modular fuel sender.
  11. Clean the fuel sender assembly O-ring sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fuel tank pressure sensor into the modular fuel sender.
  2. Reinstall the clip to the fuel tank pressure sensor.
  3. Connect the electrical connector at the fuel tank pressure sensor.
  4. Connect the modular fuel sender electrical connector at the fuel tank.

  6. Reinstall the fuel tank, with the aid of an assistant. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 235992  Size: SH
  8. Add fuel to the fuel tank.
  9. Install the fuel tank filler pipe cap (1).
  10. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  11. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  12. Inspect for leaks.
  13. 9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    9.3. Turn ON the ignition.
    9.4. Check for fuel leaks.

  14. Install the fuel injector shield (1) to the engine.
  15. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  16. Install the fuel injector sight shield nuts (2).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts 3 N·m (27 lb in).
