Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 644872  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the pressure hose retaining clip bolt from the engine block.
  4. Disconnect the pressure switch electrical connector.
  5. Remove the heat shield mounting bolts (2).
  6. Remove the heat shield (1).

  8. Remove the plastic hose retainer (2).
  9. Disconnect the variable effort electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the return hose  (5) from the power steering gear.
  11. Disconnect the pressure hose (1) from the power steering gear (4).
  12. Remove the pressure hose (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the pressure hose (1) into the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the pressure hose (1) to the power steering gear (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure hose to the power steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Connect the return hose  (5) to the power steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the return hose to the power steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Connect the variable effort electrical connector.
  8. Install the plastic hose retainer (2).

  9. Object Number: 644872  Size: SH
  10. Install the heat shield (1).
  11. Install the heat shield mounting bolts (2).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the heat shield mounting bolts (2) to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  13. Connect the pressure switch electrical connector.
  14. Install the pressure hose retaining clip bolt to the engine block.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  17. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
