Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Remove the bolt securing the power steering hose.
  3. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  4. Remove the belt tensioner.
  5. Remove the belt idler pulley.

  6. Object Number: 53642  Size: SH
  7. Remove the front cover bolts.
  8. Remove the front cover and gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard unless it is damaged.

Installation Procedure

  1. Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases.
  2. Cover the gasket over the dowel pins.

  3. Object Number: 53642  Size: SH
  4. Install the front cover over the dowel pins.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the front cover bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the front cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb ft).

  8. Install the belt idler pulley.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the idler pulley bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Install the belt tensioner.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the belt tensioner bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  13. Install the power steering hose retainer.
  14. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
