Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Insert the tape or CD from the J 39916-A .

Can audio be heard from all speakers?

Measure the voltage from the battery positive voltage circuit of the radio speaker amplifier and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Measure the voltage from the amp enable circuit of the radio speaker amplifier and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the radio speaker amplifier for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit between the radio interface module (RIM) and the radio speaker amplifier for an open or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the amp enable circuit between the radio interface module (RIM) and the radio speaker amplifier for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the shield wire circuits of the RIM for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the RIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the radio connector. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  2. Test the shield wire circuits of the radio for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
