Tools Required
J 42865 Cooling
Fan Temperature Switch Socket
Removal Procedure
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the upper radiator covers:
• | Release the self-locking tabs. |
• | Remove the upper radiator cover screws. |
• | Remove the upper radiator covers. |
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to
Intake Air Resonator Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.0L (L81).
- Remove the cooling fan shroud. Refer to
Engine Cooling Fan Replacement
.
- Disconnect the cooling fan control switches electrical connectors.
- Remove the surge tank
hose (1) from the radiator.
- Remove the coolant hose from the secondary auxiliary coolant pump.
- Remove the condenser-to-radiator
bracket bolts (1).
- Remove the radiator inlet hose clamp from the radiator.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose clamp from the radiator.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler to radiator top bolts.
- Disconnect the secondary auxiliary coolant pump connector.
- Remove the upper radiator upper mounting retainers.
- Lift and rock the radiator to unseat lower retainers.
- Remove the radiator (2) and the transmission oil cooler
together from the radiator support.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler bolts.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler from the radiator.
- Use the J 42865
to remove the cooling fan control switches, if necessary.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Use the J 42865
to install the cooling fan control switches,
if removed.
Tighten
Tighten the cooling fan control switches to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Install the transmission oil cooler to the radiator.
- Install the radiator (2) and the transmission oil cooler
together to the radiator support:
• | Engage the tabs on the bottom of the radiator in the lower retainers. |
• | Engage the upper retainers in the radiator support brackets. |
- Connect the secondary auxiliary coolant pump electrical connector.
- Install the transmission oil cooler to radiator top bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the transmission oil cooler to radiator top bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
- Install the radiator outlet hose clamp to the radiator.
- Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
- Install the radiator inlet hose clamp to the radiator.
- Install the condenser-to-radiator
bracket bolts (1).
Tighten
