Makes 🢒 Cadillac 🢒 2001 🢒 Catera 🢒 Brakes 🢒 Park Brake 🢒 Parking Brake Cable Equalizer Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Heat Shield Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  4. Measure the length of the exposed shaft thread from the nut to the end of the shaft.
  5. Record the measurement.

  6. Remove the parking brake shoe adjuster nut (1) from the parking brake lever shaft (2).

    7. Important: Clean and lubricate the exposed threads of the shaft before attempting to turn the adjuster nut.

  7. Pull the park brake cable ends forward at the equalizer (1).
  8. Remove the park brake cable ends from the equalizer and remove equalizer from vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the park brake equalizer and cable ends to the equalizer.
  2. Install the parking brake shoe adjuster nut (1) to the parking brake lever shaft (2).shoe adjuster nut
  3. Adjust the parking brake shoe adjuster nut (1) to the recorded measurement from the installation procedure.
  4. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  5. Test the parking brake operation. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  6. Install the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Heat Shield Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
