Removal Procedure
- Open the electrical center cover and push the tab to release the
electrical center from the battery.
- Open the battery isolator.
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery
cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the harness ground wires from the negative
battery cable.
- Remove the tie straps retaining the battery negative cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the negative battery
cable bracket bolt (2).
- Remove negative battery cable (1) from the A/C compressor
bracket.
- Attach a three foot length of mechanic's wire to the end of the
negative battery cable.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Pull the negative battery cable up until the mechanic's wire is
visible.
- Remove the mechanic's wire from the negative battery cable.
Important: Leave the mechanic's wire in place in the vehicle for the next step
so that the negative battery cable can be properly routed behind the thermostat
housing extension and the power steering pump.
Installation Procedure
- Install the mechanic's wire to the new negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Pull the mechanic's wire down until the negative battery cable
is visible.
- Remove the mechanic's wire from the negative battery cable.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the negative
battery cable (1) to the A/C compressor bracket.
- Install the negative battery cable bracket bolt (2).
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bracket bolt to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the tie straps to the negative battery cable.
- Install the harness ground wires to the negative battery cable.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Close the battery isolator.
- Install the electrical center to the battery and close the cover.
