Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Verify that the engine coolant is at the proper level.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the instrument cluster display Low Engine Coolant?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the cooling fluid minimum capacity sensor (low coolant switch) harness connector.
  2. Connect a 3 A fused jumper between the low coolant level indicator control circuit of the cooling fluid minimum capacity sensor harness connector and the ground circuit of the cooling fluid minimum capacity sensor electrical connector.

Does the instrument panel display Low Engine Coolant?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 4

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the cooling fluid minimum capacity sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 5

Replace the cooling fluid minimum capacity sensor. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Test the low coolant level indicator control circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Test the ground circuit of the cooling fluid minimum capacity sensor for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument cluster. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Connect all connectors and components that you previously removed.
  2. Test the low coolant indicator.

Does the low coolant indicator operate properly?

System OK
