Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Remove the upper steering column shroud screw covers.
  3. Remove the upper steering column shroud screws.
  4. Remove the upper steering column shroud.
  5. Carefully unscrew the steering wheel tilt lever from the tilt mechanism.
  6. Remove the rubber protective cover from the lock cylinder.
  7. Remove the lower steering column shroud screws.
  8. Remove the lower steering column shroud.

  9. Object Number: 160857  Size: SH
  10. Grasp the theft deterrent module (immobilizer) (1) and pull off of the ignition lock cylinder housing.
  11. It is not necessary to remove the ignition lock cylinder to remove the theft deterrent module.

  12. Disconnect the immobilizer control module wiring harness connector.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the immobilizer control module wiring harness connector.

  2. Object Number: 160857  Size: SH
  3. Install the theft deterrent module (1) and snap the theft deterrent module in place.
  4. Install the lower steering column shroud.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Do not strip the lower steering column shroud screws.

  6. Install the lower steering column shroud screws.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the lower steering column shroud screws until fully seated.

  8. Install the rubber protective cover to the lock cylinder.
  9. Use medium strength locking compound GM P/N 12345382, or equivalent, in order to coat the steering wheel tilt lever.
  10. Install the steering wheel tilt lever.
  11. Install the upper steering column shroud.
  12. Important: Do not strip the lower steering column shroud screws.

  13. Install the upper steering column shroud screws.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the upper steering column shroud screws until fully seated.

  15. Install the upper steering column shroud screw covers.
  16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
  17. Important: The vehicle may not start and a DTC 13 may set if the module (immobilizer) is not programmed properly.

    Program new immobilizers with the security code, engine type, key cylinder number (key code) and the VIN.

    U.S. dealers may obtain the security code and the key cylinder number (key code) from the vehicle invoice or by going to GM Dealerworld (www.gmdealerworld.com) . GM of Canada dealers can obtain the information from the vehicle invoice.

  18. Use the scan tool in order to program the new immobilizer. Refer to Programming Replacement Keys, Ign Cyl, or ECM .
