Did you perform the Backup Lights Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission range switch connector.
  2. Turn on the ignition.
  3. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal  D of the automatic transmission range switch connector and a known good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 4

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT X756 and/or CKT X757.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT X756 and/or CKT 757.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Connect a fused jumper wire between terminal  D and terminal F of the automatic transmission range switch connector.

Do the backup lamps illuminate?

--

Go to Step 5

Replace the automatic transmission range switch. Refer to Manual Shift Shaft Position Switch Replacement in Automatic Transmission.

Did you complete the repair?

--

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the LH backup lamp connector.
  2. Use the DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal B of the LH backup lamp connector and a known good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 8

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuit MF10 or MF757.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuits MF10 or MF757.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Use the DMM in order to measure the resistance between terminal A of the LH backup lamp connector and a known good ground.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Go to Step 10

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT F48.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT F48.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the LH and/or RH backup lamp. Refer Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were previously disconnected.
  2. Verify that the backup lamps operate properly.
